Rural Water Districts Serve Oklahomans Every Day.
Rural water providers provide safe, clean drinking water for more than 600,000 people on farms and living in small communities across Oklahoma. During the recent Oklahoma wildfires, many of these water providers provided hundreds of thousands of gallons of free water for volunteer firefighters to help protect rural Oklahoma families, homes and property.
As members of the Oklahoma Rural Water Association (ORWA), rural water providers are doing their part to support the brave men and women volunteer firefighters. In addition to providing water, rural water providers are working through the ORWA to install more fill stations in rural areas across the state so that firefighting tanker trucks can more quickly fill and transport water to hot spots.
An Unpaid Heroes Assistance Fund
Through the ORWA, rural water providers have made a donation to start a fund to help rural volunteer fire departments replace worn-out equipment or supplement fire department operating budget. Assistance Fund monies are distributed equally to rural volunteer fire departments.
